The complex of Turawa Lakes comprises 4 reservoirs.
The largest, Turawskie Lake, was created in the interwar period as a storage reservoir. Two smaller lakes, known as Średnie (Medium-sized) and Małe (Small), are located among the forests surrounding the main reservoir, and the fourth one – most often referred to as Srebrne (Silver), but also as Zielone (Green) or Szmaragdowe (Emerald) because of its turquoise colour – lies in the vicinity of Osowiec. The sandy beaches surrounded by pine forests, picturesque bends and large area of water create ideal conditions for recreation and water sports. Turawa Lakes have a well-developed infrastructure (recreation complexes, chalets, campsites, catering facilities, playgrounds, and sports fields). The waters are also renowned as an excellent fishing spot for pike perch, making them highly popular among anglers, and as a Natura 2000 special protection
area for birds, it is perfect for ornithologists.
