Glass melting with the use of wood will enable the visitors to learn about the ancient craftmanship which significantly influenced the development of our landscape since the Middle Ages and brought fame to the Czech territories all over Europe.
In the Orlické Mountains, the production of glass had been documented since the end of 15th century, and the last furnace on the Czech side of the Orlické Mountains ceased to operate in 1911. The Glass Festival refers to this well-known tradition. In a brick replica of a glass furnace, with the use of finely chopped wood, molten glass is made in a tank furnace, and then, masters of glass-making who come here from all over the country – leaders in the field – form glass items in front of the audience.
