As early as the second half of the 13th century, the city was surrounded by defensive walls...
At present we can find their fragments together with nine towers that have been preserved in various condition. Quite interestingly, the material the Głubczyce walls are made of is shale. Another unique element of the Głubczyce Old Town (besides the system of defensive walls) is its quarter-circle-shaped marketplace. The Town Hall dating back to 2008 is located in the centre. It was reconstructed in place of the previous ones, including the last one built in the mid-19th century and destroyed in 1945. The present Town Hall also houses a library and museum. In the basement, the original vaults have been preserved, and the Town Hall tower serves as an excellent observation point.
