Medieval Šance fortress

The Těšín Beskydy border region is a place with rich history. A significant historic element combining the Czech-Polish-Slovak Tripoint region is the Šance fortification system.

The Šance fortification system was built at the end of 16th century in Mosty u Jablunkova. The fortress diligently defended the Duchy of Těšín, e.g. during the Thirty Years’ War when it was conquered by the Swedish, when it was conquered by Prussians or when it was haunted by the Hungarian invasions, which it mostly deflected. It was an unbeaten obstacle for wild invaders. Thanks to the giant baroque fortifications with the main fortress in the shape of a star, the Duchy of Těšín could exist and evolve in peace.

In a newly erected building, relating to the historic fortification system, there is now an interactive exhibition organised which introduces the visitors into the history of operation of the Šance fortification system in a non-traditional, unique, and entertaining form. The Centre for Visitors of the Šance Fortress is located in the place of former fortifications from the 16th century, in the Mosty Šance district. Interactive activities are targeted at families with children and schools, adults will find something interesting there, too. Everyone can learn, for example, how a cannon works, how to produce gunpowder, how the music sounded like back then, how to build a fortress, etc. Visitors can also play electronic games and touchscreen games, and to see a 3D model with their own eyes.
