Organized every year in August, the Bolesławiec Ceramics Festival has over twenty years of history behind it and is the biggest event of its kind in Poland and one of the biggest ones throughout Europe.
The tradition of ceramic products made in Bolesławiec dates back to the medieval times, and the first mentions of ceramics produced there may be found in the sources from as far back as the late 14th century. Its popularity has long crossed the borders of the town, the region, and even the continent.
This comes as no surprise, as despite the passage of time there are still many factories present in the area that manufacture the richly-decorated Bolesławiec stoneware, and the products thus offered invariably impress potential buyers with their high quality and appearance. The annual festival of Bolesławiec ceramics produced in accordance with the custom, i.e. decorated manually, is much more than just a decorative and artistic ceramics fair. The event, which lasts a couple of days, is accompanied by various events, including, for instance, a great parade opening the festival, music concerts, street theatre performances, pottery workshops and a flea market.
