The Chotěbuz-Podobora archaeological site is one of the most visited and most significant pre-historic and early medieval monuments of Těšín Silesia. The archaeological park (Archeopark) is located in Chotěbuz, 5 km from Český Těšín.
The archaeological park is located in a place where our ancestors had lived many centuries ago, and today, it is one of the most important and best documented archaeological sites in the Czech Republic. The Chotěbuz-Podobora archaeological site aroused interest of historians and archaeologists as early as in the 19th century. The oldest excavations, however, weren’t carried out here until before the World War I. The first professional research was conducted in 1952 and 1954. Archaeologists go back to the hill fort every year, this way this location is one of the most thoroughly studied and documented archaeological sites in the Czech Republic. The archaeological park is a reconstruction of a Slavic residence from the period of mid-8th until 11th century. The fortification system is supplemented by various types of residential buildings and craft workshops. In the archaeological park, you can learn more about the life in the early medieval hill fort. The program of the Archaeological Park focuses mainly on educational activities and live shows. Visitors are offered with the infrastructure and new interactive exhibitions which primarily present the history of the Chotěbuz site, the surrounding nature and the results of the archaeological research conducted there. At the end, there is a ceramic workshop with a furnace and a potter’s wheel used during various school and public events. There are many such events in the Archaeological Park, thanks to this, visitors have a chance to see and find out for themselves how the lives of our ancestors looked like.
